One of the most prominent milestones of a teenager's life in modern society is the Prom. Not only is it a fun night to celebrate academic success and the approach of graduation and adulthood, it is also an opportunity to practice social etiquette and learn how to present oneself in a formal setting. Unfortunately one of the most expensive purchases of the junior or senior year in high school is frequently the outfit to be worn for the Prom...an outfit which costs several hundred dollars and is all too often worn only once. With this in mind, the Youth Leadership Alliance and Friends of the Children of West Hawaii are proud to have established the Prom Closet.

Prom Closet is a program of Friends of the Children of West Hawaii which assists in providing formal attire to high school juniors and seniors who would otherwise be unable to attend the junior or senior prom due to the expense of formal attire. The program collects donated formal attire, including evening gowns, ball gowns, cocktail dresses, women's pant suits, tuxedos for men or women, shoes, and accessories and provides these items on loan to students in need. Due to the necessity of tracking loaned items and insuring proper care, return, and storage, this program is available only to current clients of Friends of the Children of West Hawaii or one of our partner organizations. If you are a high school student in need and are not currently a client of one of these organizations, we encourage you to join the Youth Leadership Alliance, which would then qualify you for assistance by this program. Information on requesting assistance will be posted to the Friends of the Children of West Hawaii website in the spring of 2019.

Do you have formal attire, shoes, or accessories you would be interested in sharing with the program and children in need in West Hawaii? Click the link below to contact Friends of the Children of West Hawaii to make a donation. We can also make arrangements to pick up donations!

Friends of the Children of West Hawaii is also working on securing partnerships with local businesses in order to provide assistance with hair, makeup, and transportation expenses for Prom. If you are a professional in one of these fields and would like to assist with this project, please contact Friends of the Children of West Hawaii.
